Most patients are able to resume normal activity in one or two weeks.
On average, a breast lift mastopexy procedure with or without breast augmentation will take 4 to 5 hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the procedure. In addition, all breast lift mastopexy procedures are performed using general anesthesia as provided by board-certified anesthesiologists and certified anesthesia providers.
Following your breast lift mastopexy procedure, you will recover at the surgery center for several hours until you are safe to be discharged home with an appropriate caregiver. You will be provided with post-operative instructions, narcotic pain medication, muscle relaxation medication, antibiotics, and nausea medication. Drains are not typically placed during a breast lift mastopexy. All stitches are placed under the skin and no stitches will need removal at a later date. You may take a shower the next morning as the incisions are covered with waterproof surgical glue and paper tape. It is also important to have a primary caregiver take care of you following surgery for a few days while someone else is also taking care of any young children.
